Local issues

The area suffers a number of pressures. Excessive traffic, generated by the desire of people from outside the area to travel through, to shop and enjoy recreation here.  Pressures for the development of housing, transport and the green spaces impact heavily and frequently on residents.  BruNK is active in representing residents interests with the powers that be.

For your information, here is an interesting study of traffic calming

Core Scheme 5 consultation (ends June 2007)

The Area Joint (Traffic) Committee recently (May 2007) agreed to the following: Consultation and advertisement of a draft traffic regulation order to implement a 7.5 tonne weight limit on Maids Causeway and Newmarket Road, between the Four Lamps and Elizabeth Way roundabouts.

To consult on the proposal to install a zebra crossing on Newmarket Road, to the east of Parsonage Street

To investigate how to achieve a 20mph speed limit as part of the Core Scheme

To defer consideration of further physical measures along the route until more detail emerges from the Long Term Transport Strategy

However we do not know when the LTTS will be delivered!

Traffic Pictures

The CCC brochure has pictures of Maids Causeway that are curiously almost traffic free.  Is this really making the case for traffic restraint?  We decided to take some pictures of our own here

CCC Core Scheme Stage 5 Residents Initial Questionnaire
If you are resident in the area you should have received a paper questionnaire on their strategy for making changes to traffic in the Victoria Avenue / Maids Causeway route. A key objective is to provide an overall benefit. Residents were asked for their perceptions and concerns on traffic problems in the area.

There is quite a lot if information on Core Stage 4, the present scheme, here: Cambridge Projects Core Stage 4 pages
